Carpet maker Brintons has reported a decline in sales as well as seeing profits halved.
According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 28 September 2019, total sales fell 7.8% to £79.9m from £86.7m.
Gross profit was down from £39.1m to £36.4m, while pre-tax profit fell 50% to £4.3m compared to its profit of £8.6m recorded last year.
Commenting on its UK position, Brintons said: “Trading conditions for retailers continued to be challenging with leading chains losing market share to independents. With the introduction of new products and range relaunches we expect to drive growth in the forthcoming year.”
Overseas, Brintons said that its US, Australian and Polish markets all saw notable success, with the latter rug business delivering significant year-on-year growth.
