Post Christmas retail footfall remains in decline as restrictions tighten

In what was the last week of 2020, footfall in UK retail destinations continued to respond to tightening government restrictions, dropping significantly from the week before.

Commenting on the latest Springboard footfall data, Marketing and Insights Director, Diane Wehrle said: “Inevitably – now that the extent of Tier 4 has widened across virtually all of England, lockdowns are in place in the devolved nations and that the present buying period has ended – the great drop in footfall occurred in shopping centres, where it declined from the previous week by a third more than in high streets and twice as much as in retail parks.”
