New antimicrobial paint reduces growth of harmful bacteria

Protego Antimicrobial by The Pickleson Paint Co. – a new, highly effective antimicrobial paint has been proven to significantly reduce the growth of harmful bacteria and help reduce SARS-COV-2 (the virus that causes Covid-19) on painted surfaces.

Effective against SARS-COV-2, bacteria, fungi, and moulds, Protego Antimicrobial by Pickleson provides powerful, long-lasting product protection for painted walls and surfaces.

It is proven to reduce the SARS-COV-2 on surfaces by >45.05% after 6 hours and >68.38% after 24 hours when compared to a control coating when tested to ISO 21702:2019.

It is also proven to reduce MRSA – a type of bacteria that’s resistant to several widely used antibiotics – by 99.98% and E coli by 99.99%.

The Pickleson Paint Co. a disruptive, UK-founded paint company has launched a new range of paint, Protego Antimicrobial – Latin for ‘To Protect’ – which reduces bacteria commonly found in the home and helps reduce SARS-COV-2 (the virus that causes Covid-19) on painted surfaces.

The product contains silver-ion technology, a natural anti-microbial, which has been successful in fighting the growth of bacteria for thousands of years. When used on walls and surfaces in the home, the silver ions prevent bacteria from growing, producing energy, or replicating, and as a result they die.

It is true to say that viruses do not remain active outside the host. Most become undetectable after between 24 hours and 7 days. SARS-COV-2 lasts longer on some surfaces than others . On some surfaces it is shown to last up to 7 days after contamination. In tests we saw a reduction in SARS COV2 on a surface painted with Protego Antimicrobial of >45.05% after 6 hours and >68.38% after 24 hours when compared to a control painted sample when tested to ISO 21702:2019.

At a time when the spread of viruses and bacteria is of grave concern, the company, whose business was set up to provide a safer alternative to harmful products currently on the market, is launching their new range to help people keep their homes, workspaces, schools and meeting places more hygienic.

Rachael Green, Co-Founder of Pickleson, said: “We believe in giving people the choice to pick from beautiful paint colours, but equally important is the ability to choose paint that won’t harm your family, is environmentally-friendly and truly sustainable.

“In addition to our main range, Protego Antimicrobial goes that step further in what it offers customers. With this range, the customers’ safety remains at the forefront of our minds. We all know that we are facing unprecedented times with the spread of the Covid-19. And now, more than ever before, people are conscious about hygiene and the fight against harmful bacteria and viruses, so providing them with an option to make their homes a more hygienic space is vital at a time when it’s needed most.”

In addition to helping reduce bacteria and SARS-COV-2, Protego Antimicrobial includes key features that can be found throughout the entire Pickleson collection.

The products are made of a water-based paint formula low in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), a compound which is known to cause damage to the environment and can induce migraines when ingested. The paints are virtually odourless, can dry in as little as 20 mins and offer coverage up to twice as good as some mainstream competitors, making it an easy, safer, and more practical option for everyone.
