Mattress maker has mixed end to the year; postpones non-essential spending

Mansion House Bedding Company, a UK manufacturer of beds and mattresses, has reported a slight drop in sales and profit.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 March 2020, total sales fell 4.5% to £8.3m from £8.7m in 2019.

Gross profit declined from £3.7m to £3.6m, while pre-tax profit resulted at £325,000, down by 20.9% compared to its profit of £411,000 the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said that it experienced a poor third quarter but saw an influx of sales in the final quarter of the year. However, this was also impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In line with the ongoing presence of the virus, the business has postponed any future capital and non-essential spending that was pre-planned and has conducted efficiency reviews to identify effective ways to remain profitable.
