Independent suffers devastating fire; two teenagers arrested

Independent furniture business Farrells Furniture has suffered a devastating fire at its premises in Aberdare.

The store, which is situated on Cardiff Road, was attended by fire crews from South Wales Fire and Rescue who were called to the scene at around 6.30pm on Tuesday 15 December. They battled the blaze for over five hours.  

The ripped through the entire store, completely gutting the building and stock within it.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, meanwhile two teenagers have been arrested by South Wales Police in relation to the incident.

The police said they have received reports of “an explosion” at the site and are encouraging any witnesses to step forward as they question the 13 and 14 year old boy’s.

Farrells Furniture said in a statement: “To all of our valued customers. It is with huge sadness that I have to inform you all that a huge fire broke out at our store last night. We want to assure our customers that have placed orders that they will still get their products and we will be in touch soon.

“And a massive thank you to all the local community who helped us, we were blown away by all the support and messages. Take care and have a great Xmas any updates will be posted here as and when they happen.”
