Furniture retailer recognises online demand; sales up

Independent furniture retailer Glasswells has reported a growth in sales.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 22 February 2020, total sales rose 1.6% to £24.6m from £24.2m in 2019.

Gross profit increased from £11m to £11.3m, while pre-tax profit resulted at £223,000, down from £1.3m when compared to the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said that demand for furniture remained stable, while sales for floorcoverings, commercial storage and catering all increased.

The business added that it invested in a website relaunch in May 2019 to meet the demands of online shoppers.
